There are a lot of think tanks in every democratic country. A very important think tank in Poland is Centre for Eastern Studies (Ośrodek Studiów Wschodnich im. Marka Karpia). It’s an independent public research institution monitoring the events and analysing the socio-political and economic processes taking place in Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Belarus, the Baltic states, the Visegrad Group states, the Balkan states and Turkey.

You can subscribe to its newsletter and receive the newest analysis directly into your mail-box.

New historical sources – a meeting https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2015/10/looking-for-new-historical-sources.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2015/10/looking-for-new-historical-sources.html#respond Sat, 24 Oct 2015 18:51:00 +0000 Community archives are archival initiatives, which are independent from the state activities. They are a new place, where you can look for unknown historical sources. You can find there e.g. family photos, private documents and diaries. Polish scientists consider sources of community archives to be very important for researches with new approaches, e.g. every day life, cultural life and social life.

On October, 24 they met in Warsaw (Museum of History of Polish Jews – Polin) at the 1st Meeting of Community Archives (www.archiwa.org).

Community archives exist also in different countries in the world. You can read about archives in Kanada, New Zeland, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and Poland here.

Polish universities include research on community archives into study programmes and representatives of community archives are invited at universities, e.g. I was invited by a Polish professor of history to his seminar at the Warsaw University in May 2015. Beside that students chose to absolve their internships at community archives.

Memory places of the regions https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2011/11/memory-places-of-the-regions.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2011/11/memory-places-of-the-regions.html#respond Sun, 27 Nov 2011 16:52:00 +0000 http://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2011/11/memory-places-of-the-regions.html Comparisions of regionals researches and finding a broader geographical context can be also very inspiring. So the conference „Regional memory places: Western Bohemia and Middle Germany – a comparision” (Regionale Erinnerungsorte: Westböhmen und Mitteldeutschland im europäischen Kontext) in November 2011 was for me a great possibility to see the bigger picture.

It was organised in Greiz by the Technische Universität Chemnitz, Professor of the European Regional History in cooperation with the Dialog mit Böhmen e.V. / Antikomplex e.V. / SOA Cheb, Greiz (Thüringen).

It was important for me to analyse the regional connotations of the monuments.

Internships at cultural and educational institutions https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2006/12/internships-at-cultural-and-educational-institutions.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2006/12/internships-at-cultural-and-educational-institutions.html#respond Fri, 01 Dec 2006 12:25:00 +0000 http://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2006/12/internships-at-cultural-and-educational-institutions.html Making internship while study is very important. But you should look for the best institution for you. I didn’t think at the beginning about the culture department of Polish Embassy in Berlin, but thanks to help at the Polish Embassy I made this decision and it was the best one for me at this time.

So in November 2006 I deepened my knowledge about current Polish-German relationship from the perspective of diplomats and the Polish Foreign Ministry.

I think practice is very important. Other internships I took part on were in July and August 2006 at German-Polish Youth Exhange and in September 2006 at the Highschool in Susz between Olsztyn and Gdańsk.

Difficult neighbourhood in Alsace and Lothringen https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2006/07/difficult-neighbourhood-in-alsace-and-lothringen.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2006/07/difficult-neighbourhood-in-alsace-and-lothringen.html#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2006 19:51:00 +0000 http://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2006/07/difficult-neighbourhood-in-alsace-and-lothringen.html Relationships between France and Germany are called often as „difficult”. Especially Alsace and Lothringen are the regions which caused conflicts. So Prof. Jürgen Angelow and Prof. Bernhard Kroener (University in Potsdam) organised a seminar on the „difficult neighbourhood in Alsace and Lothringen in the 19th and 20th century”. It took place at different places in Alsace and Lothringen in 2005. I gave there a lecture about cardinal Richelieu’s politics regarding other European countries.

I took part on many excursions to different historical regions of East Central Europe and learnt to make researches on the history and culture of the region. It all was possible only thanks to help of my mentors, Prof. Jürgen Angelow (University Potsdam), Prof. Maria Gierlak (Nikolaus-Kopernikus-University), Prof. Helmut Peitsch (University Potsdam), Prof. Włodzimierz Zientara (Nikolaus-Kopernikus-University) and Dr. Iwona Kotelnicka (Nikolaus-Kopernikus-University).
