New historical sources – a meeting https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2015/10/looking-for-new-historical-sources.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2015/10/looking-for-new-historical-sources.html#respond Sat, 24 Oct 2015 18:51:00 +0000 Community archives are archival initiatives, which are independent from the state activities. They are a new place, where you can look for unknown historical sources. You can find there e.g. family photos, private documents and diaries. Polish scientists consider sources of community archives to be very important for researches with new approaches, e.g. every day life, cultural life and social life.

On October, 24 they met in Warsaw (Museum of History of Polish Jews – Polin) at the 1st Meeting of Community Archives (www.archiwa.org).

Community archives exist also in different countries in the world. You can read about archives in Kanada, New Zeland, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and Poland here.

Polish universities include research on community archives into study programmes and representatives of community archives are invited at universities, e.g. I was invited by a Polish professor of history to his seminar at the Warsaw University in May 2015. Beside that students chose to absolve their internships at community archives.

I am looking for a good catchword [Marta Gałązka] https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2015/10/looking-for-a-good-catchword-marta-galazka.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2015/10/looking-for-a-good-catchword-marta-galazka.html#respond Thu, 22 Oct 2015 10:21:15 +0000 http://agnieszkakudelka.pl/?p=247 At the weekend parliamentary election takes place in Poland. It is a good moment for the analysis of political campaigns.

„Citizens decide” („Obywatele decydują”), „I love Poland” („Kocham Polskę”) and „We can do it” („Damy radę”) are new catchwords of political parties. It could not be antything wrong, but these slogans are slogans of ngo’s projects or other organizastions. Are there conscious actions or spin doctors’s inattention during electoral campaigns?

• New political party Modern Poland (Nowoczesna Polska) – the same name as non governmental organization The Modern Poland Foundation (Fundacja Nowoczesna Polska) – is a market liberal and social liberal party founded in 2015 by the economist Ryszard Petru. Many people thought that Modern Poland and The Modern Poland Foundation are the same organization. Current name: .Modern

• During electoral campaign Law and Justice (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS) used a catchword „Citizens decide” („Obywatele decydują”). It is also project of Institute of Civil Affairs (Instytut Spraw Obywatelskich, Inspro). Project has conduct for three years.

• „We can do it” („Damy radę”) was other PiS’s catchwords. People know these slogan from fable „Bob the Builder” („Bob Budowniczy”). It is also a WWO’s song.

• Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska, PO) used a slogan „I love Poland” („Kocham Polskę”). It is also the name of campaign prepered by All-Polish Youth (Młodzież Wszechpolska). These organization has conduct their campaign for ten years.

Effects of the project are a bilingual publication and a bilingual Web-presentation: www.korpus.karta.org.pl (pl) and http://korpus.karta.org.pl/?lang=en (en). Some collected photos you can see here.

Polish Eastern Borderland in Węgliniec https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2012/06/polish-eastern-borderland-in-wegliniec.html https://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2012/06/polish-eastern-borderland-in-wegliniec.html#respond Sun, 03 Jun 2012 16:03:00 +0000 http://agnieszkakudelka.pl/2012/06/polish-eastern-borderland-in-wegliniec.html Commemoration of an expulsion can help to overcome the trauma of expelled. This is the case with the Museum of the Polish Eastern Borderland in Węgliniec, which I visited. The history of the Museum you can read and see here. It’s of course a very emotional and not professional museum, but it’s interesting to see and to listen what the whole equipment, documents and photos mean for the museum’s founder Alfred Janicki.

Janicki deals with emotions of the visitors very instrumentally. He even makes them want to cry. Unfortunatelly he also seems to own the the whole equipment, documents and photos. He works now for the city library, so hopefully the things will be later taken over by the library.
